Leo Messi finally won the legal battle that lasted since 2011 – the European Union court decided that the ace of Barcelona can register his surname as a trademark, under which he could sell sports equipment.
Seven years ago, Messi applied for the registration of his surname in the EU commission for intellectual property, but the registration was contested by the Spanish manufacturer of cycling equipment – “Massi”, considering that it was too similar, which could confuse consumers.
Seven years of hearings and legal entanglements lasted, and today the EU commission ruled in favor of Leo Messi.
Soon, therefore, sports equipment could appear that will be signed by many people’s best player today.
