UK PM Theresa May urged to replace signature heels with flats – Times of India

Must read

Theresa May has been urged to ditch her signature animal print heels and go for flats instead. This came right after a debate on demanding a ban on the practice of women being compelled to wear high heels at work, at a trade unions‘ conference in Brighton recently. Kate Collins, of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists, opened the debate by saying, “Eighty per cent of adults have a foot problem, which is caused by work… Some employers enforce a dress code which includes shoes. Wearing high heels has real longterm health implications.”

The debate took place when a receptionist was sent home after she refused to wear high heels to work. Over 1,40,000 people signed a petition supporting her. “We now have someone running the country who can set an example for the rest of us by wearing sensible shoes. When Theresa May became the prime minister, I expected to read analysis of her policies, priorities, and her approach to Brexit. Instead, most of the newspapers concentrated on her love for shoes and her extensive shoe collection,” said Penny Robinson, a trade union delegate. “Let the media see that you can be the most powerful woman in the country without needing to wear designer shoes to meet men’s expectations,” she added.
