EU election day is drawing closer in Finland, and All Points North hits the streets of the capital to quiz voters on their European acumen.

Finding people to interview on the streets proved difficult, as not many were willing to discuss the EU.

“It might be because we just had these sort of heated presidential elections. So nobody was really talking about it,” said one election campaigner on the streets.

Don’t curb your EU-thusiasm

Several reports have suggested that the 2024 European Parliament elections will see a shift to the right in many countries, and on that front APN took a closer look at the Finns Party’s turnaround on euroscepticism.

Helsinki University EU expert Markus Ojala told APN that the agenda of right-wing parties has shifted towards defending national interests within the European Union.

“So, the Finns Party, [and] the radical right more generally, are kind of repositioning themselves, trying to present themselves as sort of defenders of the national interest,” he said.

In addition to rounding up the big stories of the week, hosts Matt and Zena also test their own EU trivia.
