Nashik: Dhule parliamentary constituency’s newly elected MP from Congress Shobha Bachhav said on Monday that her priority was to address issues troubling farmers and sort out drinking water problems in the city and rural areas.Interacting with journalists of the Times Group on Monday, she said, “We will request the Centre to introduce minimum support price for crops like onion, cotton and soybean as per recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.”She said onion farmers were financially hit due to the Centre’s ban on onion exports. It had led to a crash in wholesale onion prices. Recently, the Centre lifted the ban, but there were still restrictions like a minimum export price of US$550 per tonne and a 40% export duty on onion export. “We will request the Centre to withdraw both,” said Bachhav.“Moreover, the Centre has levied 18% GST on various agricultural implements. We will make efforts that this is dropped,” she added.Bachhav said drinking water was a major issue for Dhule city residents. The supply was restricted to once in eight days. “I will take measures in this connection and ensure water is provided daily or every alternate day.”Various pending irrigation projects in Dhule would get a boost. Moreover, steps would be taken to bring in big industrial projects to generate jobs for local youths. “Developmental works will be carried out in all six state assembly segments in the Dhule parliamentary constituency,” said Bachhav.
