Bomb threat to Chennai schools; cops to seek Interpol help – Times of India

CHENNAI: The case of bomb threat mail to 13 schools in the city on Thursday, which turned to be a hoax, remained unsolved till Friday evening, as police were clueless about the pranksters’ identity.

Cybercrime police have forwarded the cases to central crime branch (CCB) to track the prankster who had sent the hoax mails using servers in Switzerland. Three special teams have been formed to trace the suspects. Police also plan to seek Interpol’s help to get the suspect’s location and internet protocol address.

Police said the cases were registered separately at different police stations. Later, the email and the corresponding codes were sent to the cybercrime division.

“The codes were used to trace the IP address of the location from where the emails emanated. The emails seem to have been sent from a country in the European Union. However, cyber experts are still investigating if the IP address was masked to cover the original location,” said a police officer.
