Vijayawada: Police on Wednesday conducted searches on the information technology department in AP secretariat amidst reports that efforts may be made by unscrupulous elements to delete or steal crucial data from the main server and computers, following a change in govt.A large posse of policemen descended on the IT department and thoroughly searched all computers, laptops, pen drives, besides the main server. They also seized some data hard drives for inspection. They also questioned the employees over possible data theft or deletion.The surprise searches gained significance as the police in neighbouring Telangana launched investigation over destruction of data from the server room by some police officials. To prevent similar incident in AP, the police took up searches as a precautionary measure, a senior official said.
