Czech President Petr Pavel on next steps for US-EU cooperation post-NATO Summit

Must read

On Friday, July 12 at 12:15 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council is hosting an #ACFrontPage conversation featuring Czech President Petr Pavel. The discussion will focus on the future of US-EU collaboration on supporting Ukraine and the NATO Summit’s outcomes on enhancing security on Europe’s eastern flank.

Czechia has become a leader in the transatlantic community and a steadfast supporter of Ukraine. As part of their support, Czech leaders have advocated for Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration, with officials such as Pavel calling for an expedited path towards NATO integration—an issue high on the agenda at the NATO Summit in Washington. Czechia has also expressed concerns about reports of increasing exports from China for Russia’s military-industrial complex, which helps sustain Russia’s brutal campaign against Ukraine.

Both the European Union and United States have held or will hold elections in 2024 that will shape the transatlantic partnership and its outlook on evolving global crises. In addition to sharing his vision for supporting Ukraine and securing Europe’s eastern flank, Pavel will also discuss combating Chinese influence and the interconnectedness of transatlantic and Indo-Pacific security, among other topics.

This event will take place in partnership with Jagello 2000, and will be preceded by an experts panel on the steps needed to strengthen the alliance. The experts panel will feature Jan Jireš, director general of defense policy and planning at the Czech Ministry of Defense; Lieutenant General Karel Řehka, chief of the general staff of the Czech Armed Forces; Ambassador Daniel Fried, Weiser Family Distinguished Fellow at the Atlantic Council; and Atlantic Council Nonresident Senior Fellow Valbona Zeneli.

This edition of #ACFrontPage will be livestreamed on Atlantic Council TV, YouTube, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter). This event is open to the public, including media, via the livestream. To join virtually, please complete the registration form.
