This webinar will provide a snapshot analysis of election results and their implications for Europe’s foreign policy and security agenda. Featuring perspectives from selected ECFR offices across European capitals, the discussion will explore election outcomes in key EU member states – Bulgaria, France, Germany and Italy – and examine how the political reconfigurations in Brussels, including potential nominations for top EU positions, may impede or push Europe’s foreign and security policy. Drawing on ECFR’s latest public opinion poll on the European election, the panel will delve into voters’ reactions to the geopolitical shifts such as the war in Ukraine or increased strategic competition. Has it influenced their choice at the ballot box? What are their current expectations from Europe, and will the anticipated changes in Brussels meet these demands? Ultimately, how should the EU’s foreign policy mandate evolve in the next institutional cycle?
Susi Dennison, Senior Policy Fellow and Strategy Transformation Manager at ECFR, will moderate the debate. She will be joined by Celia Belin, Head of ECFR Paris, Rafael Loss, Policy Fellow at ECFR Berlin, Maria Simeonova, Head of ECFR Sofia, and Arturo Varvelli, Head of ECFR Rome. Together, they will provide insights from their respective national contexts and discuss how these can contribute to building a stronger Europe.
