On Thursday, 7 March 2024, to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, the FEMM Committee, in collaboration with the National Parliaments, organised an inter-parliamentary committee (ICM) meeting on the topic “Women in Sport”.
Women in sport are fighting to ensure that their achievements are recognised equally to their male counterparts, breaking down stereotypes in certain sports that are typically seen as a man’s world. Report on abuse scandals affecting women in sports in a variety of fields are well known, as well as the fight of women for equal financial rewards and status. We looked into the issues, as well as celebrated and acknowledged the strides taken and progress made in this field, especially in the context of next year’s Paris Olympic Games. The values of sportsmanship, teamwork, as well as social responsibility through sport are respected worldwide.
