The head of the European Union’s Infrastructure, Private Sector Development and Investment Team in Mozambique, Veerle Smet, has announced the implementation of a project named “Game To Change”, budgeted at 8.5 million Euros (9.1 million dollars at the current exchange rate).
According to Smet, who was speaking, on Thursday, in Maputo, at the annual balance meeting of the project named “Promotion of Professional Education and Employment” (PEPE), the “Game to Change” project is aligned with the promotion of jobs for women, and engaging Mozambican youth in green transformation.
At this ceremony, the permanent secretary of the State Secretariat for Youth and Employment, Ivete Alane, said that, under the PEPE, it is necessary to prepare the National Institute for Employment and Professional Training (INEFP) as a crucial strategy for the success of the project.
“We see the project as one of the mechanisms with the potential to help promote companies. We want this project to be able to move very quickly from debates, seminars and workshops to the field and practice, with the aim of employment and self-employment”, she said.
Alane also called for certification of vocational training centers, the extension of work-linked training, the training of trainers and the equipping of job centers by the National Institute for Employment and Vocational Training.
“Job centers are traditionally the gateway for young people looking for work. That’s where they receive the necessary guidance on professional training, vocational training, formal employment and self-employment”, she explained.
For her part, the head of cooperation at the German Embassy, Christine de Barros, said “Our efforts are focused on supporting development through the modernization of Technical and Vocational Education Institutes, as well as influencing the ongoing training of teachers and trainers and developing the curriculum to meet the current demands of the modern labour market”.
