Over EUR 22 billion requested for transport infrastructure projects proposing to enhance the Trans-European Transport network

Must read

CINEA received 408 applications requesting over EUR 22 billion co-funding from the Connecting Europe Facility by the call deadline of 30 January 2024. This represents an oversubscription of over 3 times the total budget of EUR 7 billion available for this call for proposals.

The Connecting Europe Facility for Transport is the key EU funding instrument for the construction and upgrade of sustainable transport infrastructure in Europe. It aims to complete and modernise the Trans-European Transport network, with a focus on the development of cross-border links. CEF Transport contributes directly to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. CEF Transport also addresses the changed geopolitical landscape in Europe created by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and contributes to the development of the Solidarity Lanes.

Overall, the new projects will contribute to transport policy objectives such as enhancing major interoperable transport axes along the Core Network Corridors, improving safety and resilience of the network, and increasing the capacity and performance of the rail, inland waterways and short sea shipping infrastructure, within an integrated multimodal transport system.

CINEA will check the admissibility and eligibility of the submitted proposals. The evaluation will continue based on the award criteria of the call, with the assistance of external independent experts. The results will be announced in July 2024.

To date, about half of the 2021-2027 CEF-Transport budget of EUR 25.6 billion was granted to projects. This new selection will result in a total allocation of about 80% of the CEF-Transport budget.

Information of the supported projects is published on the CINEA public dashboard.
