Rexit, Brexit and Nexit: The curious case of too many exits – Times of India

Must read

Of late, Twitter has been coining interesting expressions for trending topics.

While Britain’s exit from the European Union has been trending as #Brexit (Britain’s exit) for a while now, RBI chief Raghuram Rajan’s exit came to be called #Rexit, just a few days ago. That’s not all. In line with Brexit and Rexit, #Nexit, too, was doing the rounds on Twitter recently after India-born Nikesh Arora stunned everyone with his shock announcement that he’s quitting the posts of president and COO at SoftBank.

Inspired by #Brexit, people around the world have coined names for their countries were they to leave the Union. Here are a few charming names doing the rounds: Belgium could become Byegium, Portugal may come to be called Deportugal, and The Netherlands could just become Nethermind.

And following the results of the Brexit vote, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has reiterated that it’s time now for Delhi to have a referendum similar to the one in the UK, to grant it statehood.

One can be sure then that more such coinages are waiting to be spawned.
