Next year “Windows 11” users from the euro area will be able to disable Bing online search. In the interface of the operating system, it will be possible to replace it with any other search engine, including Google Chrome. Additionally, users will be able to completely remove the default Bing web browser.
The aforementioned innovations will become possible thanks to the law on digital markets adopted by members of the European Parliament. It will enter into force in the euro area in March next year. The document obliges software developers to comply with competition and interoperability rules. It provides that users can decide the fate of installed applications at their own discretion.
Windows without Edge and Bing will only be available in Europe
In the latest test versions of the operating system, Microsoft developers installed the ability to remove the voice assistant Cortana, as well as the pre-installed applications Camera and Photos.
It should be kept in mind that the mentioned privileges will be granted only to users of the Eurozone. In other countries where Microsoft operates, the rules for using Windows 11 will remain unchanged.
