KYIV: Ukraine, which continues to import high amounts of electricity after Russian attacks on its energy system, has restored service on a power line with Slovakia after repairs, data from Ukrainian power grid operator Ukrenergo showed on Monday.

The line, one of the high-voltage overhead lines connecting the Ukrainian energy system with the united energy grid of continental Europe, underwent scheduled repairs last week.

Ukrenergo has said it imports electricity from Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Hungary and Moldova.

The company expects imports of 24,799 megawatt hours (MWh) on Monday, it said.

Ukraine can import no more than 1,700 MW per hour of electricity from EU states simultaneously, but is in talks with the EU to increase capability to 2,200 MW per hour.

Ukrenergo said late on Sunday that it would impose hour-long power cuts throughout the country on Monday evening.
